Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has urged Nigerians to embrace hope, peace and sober reflection as they celebrate Christmas and prepare for the New Year.
Fayemi, who was a Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), made the call in his Christmas message issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh.
He said the season symbolises love, sacrifice and renewal, values he described as timeless and unifying.
Fayemi acknowledged the country’s economic and social challenges, adding that Nigeria had consistently shown resilience and the capacity to overcome adversity through collective resolve.
“While we cannot deny the reality of the challenges before us, we must also not surrender our faith in the future of our country.
“Christmas offers renewed hope even in times of uncertainty,” he said.
Fayemi called on Nigerians to celebrate responsibly, mindful of prevailing economic realities and the need to show compassion and solidarity with the less privileged.
He described Christmas as more than a period of merrymaking, noting its deep spiritual significance rooted in humility, compassion and sacrificial love.
According to him, these values remain critical to rebuilding Nigeria’s social fabric and strengthening communal bonds.
“We may be in a difficult season, but we are not a hopeless people.
“As we move into the New Year, let us carry a spirit of determination and shared responsibility,” Fayemi said.
The former governor expressed confidence that with collective effort and divine grace, Nigeria would emerge stronger and more prosperous.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful Christmas and a productive, secure and flourishing New Year. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
