Falana kicks as Police arrest father of alleged fake PFIPC boss

A Lagos-based human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Femi Falana, on Monday accused operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) of arresting the father of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, the alleged fake Director-General of the controversial Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC), during a raid on the family home in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

A family friend who visited the residence on Monday morning was also reportedly taken into custody.

The development was confirmed by the SAN in a telephone interview with Tribune online on Monday evening.

According to Falana, “Police have now stormed the house of the parents of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, Plot 3, Adeniyi Dynasty, behind Technical College, Road Safety Area, Ogbomoso.

“The father has been arrested. There is no legal basis for substituted arrests. The young man has promised to show up in court, so why arrest his father?”

It would be recalled that Falana had insisted that the allegations surrounding the PFIPC must be resolved through due process.

The senior lawyer had specifically stated that the Presidency lacks the constitutional authority to exonerate individuals accused of crimes, stressing that only the courts can determine criminal liability.

Falana also warned against actions that could suggest intimidation while the matter remains sub judice.

The raid comes amid ongoing legal proceedings linked to the PFIPC, a council alleged to have operated without legal backing despite claims of ties to the Presidency.

Prince Adeniyi is facing criminal charges, including forgery, impersonation and related offences.
