FAKE NEWS: Tinubu will not visit US on Tuesday – Presidency denies reports

The Presidency has refuted reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu was set to travel to the United States on Tuesday to meet with US Vice President J.D. Vance.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, described the story as “false and misleading.”

He said the report, first published by Sahara Reporters, had already triggered “uninformed commentaries” on social media.

Ajayi Describes Report as Fake News

Ajayi wrote, “There is a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true.”

He added that if President Tinubu were to visit the White House, “he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”

The clarification comes amid rising diplomatic tension following US President Donald Trump’s recent threat of possible military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Presidency Yet to Confirm Any Travel Plans

Over the weekend, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, had said via X (formerly Twitter) that the President would “soon meet with President Trump” to discuss the US leader’s controversial remarks.

However, Ajayi’s statement has effectively dismissed reports of any planned visit or meeting involving the American Vice President.

As of the time of this report, the Presidency has not confirmed any official travel plans by President Tinubu regarding talks with the US government over Nigeria’s redesignation as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC).
