The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that all federal government-owned airports in the country are fully insured. Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku gave the assurance in Lagos on Tuesday following concerns raised at the 5th CHINET Aviacargo Conference during the 21st Akwaaba African Travel Market.
Earlier, Capt. Edward Boyo, founder and CEO of Overland Airways, had claimed that non-insurance of airports was negatively affecting domestic airline operations. His comments stirred debate within the aviation sector.
Responding, Kuku clarified that all airports under FAAN’s management have their insurance updated. She added that derubberization and runway maintenance are being carried out regularly, with proper records available for verification.
The FAAN boss also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve safety standards. She noted that the authority is working with relevant stakeholders to address the challenge of bird strikes, which continue to disrupt flight operations nationwide.
Kuku reassured the public and operators that FAAN remains committed to upholding international safety standards across all its airports, ensuring smooth and secure operations for passengers and airlines alike.
