Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State is reportedly making plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
If confirmed, the move could reshape the political balance in Taraba, a state long regarded as a stronghold of the PDP.
The report was shared on Monday by political commentator Imran Muhammad in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
He claimed the governor would make his formal declaration after the conclusion of the state’s local government elections in November.
Kefas’ Expected Move and Danjuma’s Influence
According to Muhammad, retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, one of the most respected figures in Taraba politics, is now fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration — a development believed to be paving the way for Kefas’ defection.
“The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, is set to defect from the PDP to the APC in November 2025 after the state local government elections. General TY Danjuma is now also fully aligned with President Tinubu,” Muhammad posted.
Shift in Taraba’s Political Landscape
Should the defection take place, it will mark a historic political shift in Taraba State, which has consistently remained under the PDP since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. The move would also strengthen the APC’s growing dominance in the North ahead of the 2027 elections.
This revelation follows reports of another high-profile defection — that of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah — who is expected to join the APC along with his entire cabinet.
In a viral video shared on social media, members of Mbah’s team were heard saying, “We are in the APC now, Jagaban all the way, APC from bottom to top.”
APC Consolidates Power Ahead of 2027
With the ruling party currently controlling 23 states as of October 13, 2025, analysts predict that more governors may join the APC before the 2027 general elections, further tightening its grip on national politics.
The growing wave of defections has left many Nigerians wondering: will all state governors eventually align with the APC before 2027?
