Former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has raised concerns over the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ (NSCDC) capacity to provide protection for Very Important Personalities (VIPs).
Ejiofor spoke on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, monitored by NAIJAONPOINT. His remarks came in response to President Bola Tinubu’s directive transferring VIP protection duties from the police to the NSCDC.
He insisted that the corps lacks both the manpower and the specialized training necessary for such sensitive assignments.
“The NSCDC does not have the capacity; they are not trained for it. They don’t have the numbers to deploy, and their statutory function is to provide security for critical infrastructure,” Ejiofor explained.
He added that implementing VIP protection would require extensive training and resources, making the directive operationally challenging despite its good intentions.
