Ember Months: FCT Police Outlaw Firecrackers, Vow Strict Enforcement

By Chimezie Godfrey

‎The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has barred Abuja residents from selling or using firecrackers and other unauthorised pyrotechnics during the festive season.

‎Speaking on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers will intensify enforcement to curb the increasing spread of explosive devices.

‎“Firecrackers cause avoidable injuries, fires and unnecessary panic,” she said.

‎“They also create distractions criminals can exploit to carry out unlawful acts.”

‎Adeh explained that many vulnerable people—including the elderly and persons with medical conditions—could be adversely affected by the loud blasts.

‎She warned that operatives have been deployed across the FCT to clamp down on violators. “Anyone caught selling or using these banned explosive items will be arrested and prosecuted,” she insisted.

Residents were urged to report violators through the Command’s helplines: 08032003913, 08068587311.
