Elections Not Fully Determined by Voters in Nigeria – Tambuwal

Sokoto South Senator and former governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has said elections in Nigeria are not entirely decided by the electorate, citing systemic weaknesses and alleged compromises at various stages of the electoral process.

Tambuwal made the assertion on Monday while speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.

According to him, irregularities often occur during vote collation, resulting in outcomes that do not accurately reflect the will of voters.

“It’s not completely decided by the electorates. I can say that without mincing words,” he said.

Tambuwal alleged that from polling units through ward, local government, state, and even national collation levels, actions sometimes take place that misrepresent votes cast by the people.

He further claimed that politicians exploit loopholes in the system and that some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are compromised.

“The system is breaking down through INEC, the courts, and the politicians. Politicians try to find corners to cut, and wherever there is a loophole, they take advantage of it,” Tambuwal stated.
