Lawal Hamisu Jankasa, Secretary-General of the Northern Youth Alliance for Security, has criticized former Kaduna State governor Nasir el‑Rufai’s recent oath on the Holy Qur’an, describing it as a ploy to mislead the public amid corruption allegations, according to LEADERSHIP report on Thursday March 26, 2026.
In a statement, Jankasa argued that El‑Rufai’s declaration of innocence coincides suspiciously with his arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
He noted that El‑Rufai is accused of receiving N289,826,998.12 as severance allowance, far above his legitimate entitlement of N20,013,245.00.
Jankasa emphasized that the excess payment over 300 percent of El‑Rufai’s annual basic salary points to possible misuse of public funds.
He added that ICPC’s investigation revealed the money was knowingly collected and falls under proceeds of corruption, violating Section 18(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Jankasa said, “He stands accused of receiving a staggering N289,826,998.12 as a severance allowance, a figure that far exceeds his legitimate entitlement of N20,013,245.00.”
