The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on the occasion of his 30th coronation anniversary, which falls on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole described the Emir’s reign as “hugely remarkable” and a blessing to the people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the Emir has consistently demonstrated the qualities of a true father figure, commending his unwavering advocacy for peace, unity, and sustainable development.
Prof. Egbewole expressed gratitude to the Emir for his love, support, and prayers for the University, both before and since his ascension to the throne in 1995.
According to the Vice Chancellor, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), one of the most notable features of the Emir’s reign has been the remarkable expansion of university education within Ilorin and across Kwara State.
He observed that more than ten universities have been established in the state during the Emir’s reign, complementing the University of Ilorin’s efforts in providing quality higher education to Nigerians and students from across Africa.
Prof. Egbewole further noted the symbolic significance of the Emir’s 30th coronation anniversary coinciding with the University’s 50th anniversary, describing the dual milestones as “a period of shared celebration and reflection on growth and impact.”
He also reaffirmed the University’s commitment to community engagement, pledging to strengthen the Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS) for improved research and service delivery.
“The University will continue to support the Ilorin community in making it a better place to learn, live, and thrive,” the Vice Chancellor assured.
On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, and students of the University, Prof. Egbewole wished the Emir continued peace, good health, and a more rewarding reign.
