During My University Days, I Once Spent 48hrs Without Food With Only 2 Shirts And One Trouser—Bakari

According to a report by The Cable News, Salihu Bakari, a governorship aspirant for the APC in Adamawa State, has shared a personal story that reflects his deep understanding of poverty and the struggles faced by many in the state.

According to Bakari, his experiences growing up in a humble family and studying under difficult conditions have shaped his vision for leadership.

He stated, “I understand poverty very well, I once spent 48 hours in university without food with only two shirts and a pair of trousers.”

This statement underscores the personal challenges he faced and his empathy for the poor.

Bakari emphasised that these early hardships motivated him to help others, especially in areas of education and skills development.

During his time as director general of special projects and programmes, Bakari introduced several initiatives, including a local apprenticeship scheme that trained over 10,000 young men and women.

These programmes aimed to equip residents with the skills needed to generate employment and create wealth.

Many of those trained under his programmes have since become employers of labour themselves.

Bakari also highlighted the importance of education in addressing broader social issues.

He explained that access to quality education can reduce poverty, improve health, and prevent early marriages.

He lamented that many schools in Adamawa today remain overcrowded, with some classrooms holding up to 200 students.

He stressed the need to revive the programmes he had started, ensuring children have proper school buildings, uniforms, and basic facilities like toilets and water.

Beyond education, Bakari pointed out that rural development and agriculture are critical areas that need attention.

He noted that most people in Adamawa live in rural areas yet lack basic infrastructure such as roads and clean water.

Farmers continue to struggle due to poor access to inputs, storage facilities, and processing centres.

Salihu Bakari concluded that his personal experience with poverty gives him a unique perspective and commitment to improving the lives of Adamawa residents.

He believes that with proper leadership, the state can address its challenges and provide a better future for all its citizens.
