Drug Traffickers, Kidnap Suspects Nabbed in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against crime and illicit drug trafficking, following a joint operation that led to the interception of cannabis concealed beneath tubers of yam.

The operation, carried out on September 26, 2025, around 4:00 pm along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis, was conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and local vigilante groups.

According to police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, 127 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis were discovered hidden in a vehicle transporting yams. Two men, identified as Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Saliku in Niger State’s Magama Local Government Area, were arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.

In a separate development, operatives also apprehended three suspects — Mohammed Abubakar, Hussain (both of Tsaragi), and Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnapper linked to the violent invasion of Babanla on August 8, 2025.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the collaborative effort, stressing that the state will not tolerate criminal activities. He assured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining security and vowed that the arrested suspects would be charged in court following investigations.

“This development shows that Kwara will not be a safe haven for criminal elements,” CP Ojo warned.
