The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has called on Nigerian youths to stay focused, embrace technology for positive use, and expose criminal activities around them.
Speaking through Babatunde Sulaiman, Head of Public Affairs, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, the EFCC boss gave the charge on Thursday, 2 October 2025, while addressing Batch B, Stream 2 corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
Olukoyede urged young Nigerians to use the EFCC’s Eagle Eye App to report fraud and financial crimes, stressing that corruption has crippled national development. “Don’t cover up fraudulent practices. Expose them. We must work to make things work,” he said.
Warning against internet fraud
The EFCC Chairman warned that involvement in internet fraud could destroy the future of many young Nigerians. He noted that being an ex-convict comes with severe consequences.
“An ex-convict cannot hold public office in future. Many will be denied visas, and no serious national or international company will be run by someone once jailed for fraud,” he cautioned.
Call for anti-corruption campaign in Enugu
At the Enugu orientation camp, Olukoyede, represented by Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, Bashir Emmanuel Afanda, urged corps members to dedicate their energy to educating the public against corruption.
“This is how to build a community of anti-corruption fighters and the surest way to move the nation forward,” he said.
Emphasis on legitimate earnings in South-South
In Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, the EFCC Chairman reminded corps members that there are legitimate ways of earning income without resorting to cybercrime.
Represented by DSE Sani Ismail and ASE 1 Abubakar S. Muhammed, he stressed that fraudulent practices only harm young people, their future, and society. He encouraged corps members to use their service year to grow, learn, and contribute positively to nation building.
Appeal in Kaduna
In Kaduna, Olukoyede again called on corps members to channel their strength and talents into meaningful ventures that support the fight against economic and financial crimes, instead of engaging in cybercrime.
