In a Truth Social post, President Donald Trump announced that any individual apprehended for burning the US flag will be immediately arrested and is subject to one-year imprisonment.

To the ICE, Border patrol, law enforcement and US military.As per my August 25,2025 executive order, please be advised that, from this point forward, anybody burning the American flag will be subject to one year in prison. You will be immediately arrested. Thank you for your attention on this matter.
It’s worth noting that the US government shutdown, which began on October 1, 2025, marks its first shutdown in six years.
It would be recalled that former president, Joe Biden’s administration faced backlash for displaying a rainbow-colored Pride flag alongside American flags at the White House during Pride Month in 2023.
Senator Dr. Roger Marshall from Kansas called it a “disgrace,” breaching the US Flag Code and showing incompetence.
