Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has dismissed reports suggesting he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the party’s same-faith presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
Dogara described the claims as false and politically motivated, insisting that he remains a committed member of the ruling party and is fully behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The clarification was contained in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by his spokesperson, Dr. Dominic Alancha, who accused those behind the reports of deliberately attempting to create disunity within the APC.
According to Alancha, Dogara has neither resigned from the party nor indicated any intention of doing so.
“We wish to state categorically that these claims are false, baseless, and deliberately intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension.
“Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara remains a committed and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress. He has neither resigned from the party nor expressed any intention to do so,” the statement read.
The former Speaker’s camp maintained that the reports were the handiwork of political mischief-makers seeking to exploit the ongoing debate around the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket to create unnecessary tension within the party.
Alancha stressed that Dogara remains actively involved in strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that the former Speaker is collaborating with party leaders and supporters across the country to position the ruling party for another electoral victory.
“As a statesman and experienced democrat, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara remains steadfast in his commitment to the unity, growth and success of the APC,” the statement said.
“He is fully dedicated to working with party leaders, members and supporters across the country to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
The statement further reaffirmed Dogara’s support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing the President’s re-election as one of his key political priorities.

According to Alancha, Dogara remains committed to promoting good governance, national unity and sustainable development under the APC-led administration.
The former Speaker’s spokesman urged Nigerians and media organisations to disregard what he described as fabricated reports about Dogara’s political future, insisting that only official statements from the former lawmaker should be considered credible.
He also warned against the spread of false information capable of creating unnecessary divisions within the ruling party.
“We urge members of the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely only on verified information from credible and official sources,” Alancha said.
“Those behind these unfounded allegations should desist from spreading falsehoods capable of undermining the unity of our great party.”
The statement comes amid growing political realignments and heightened speculation over party loyalties as preparations for the 2027 general election continue.
