A Nigerian medical doctor identified as Dr Bishop has stirred laughter across social media after sharing a funny confession made by one of his patients moments before surgery.
The doctor, who narrated the incident on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, said the confession came just as the patient was about to be taken into the operating theatre for an emergency bowel obstruction surgery.
Patient admits eating before surgery
According to Dr Bishop, the patient suddenly asked to make a confession before the procedure began.
Concerned, the medical team offered to call either a priest or a family member to listen to him, but the patient insisted the confession was meant for the doctors.
“Eventually, he asked me to draw close so he could whisper the confession in my ear,” the doctor wrote.
To everyone’s surprise, the patient then said: “I know you guys asked me not to eat or drink anything, but I was so hungry that I asked my younger brother to smuggle in some eba and ogbono soup, which I just finished about 30 minutes ago.”
Dr Bishop described the confession as the “most helpful” he had ever heard, as it helped the medical team understand what might have worsened the patient’s condition before surgery.
... quickly went viral, drawing hundreds of comments and reactions from amused users who praised the patient’s honesty while joking about the irresistible nature of Nigerian food.
