A medical practitioner, Dr. Najeeb Maigatari, has praised Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, for his achievements in healthcare delivery, while calling for the domestication of the Medical Residency Training Fund.
In an open letter, Maigatari recalled that he had earlier written to the governor in October 2024 on the challenges facing the sector.
He said the governor’s subsequent policies had transformed healthcare services in the state.
Among the major projects cited was the Jigawa Medical Village, approved in April 2025, comprising a cardiac centre, diagnostic facility and oxygen plant.
Maigatari also commended the government for increasing workers’ wages, harmonising allowances and recruiting additional medical staff.
He described the establishment of free dialysis centres in five provinces as a landmark achievement.
“These centres will ease the burden on patients with kidney-related ailments,” he said.
He added that the subsidisation of drugs for chronic diseases had improved access to treatment.
The doctor recalled that the governor was honoured as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare in August 2025.
However, he urged the government to implement the Medical Residency Training Fund to strengthen specialist manpower.
He also praised the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa, and officials of the Ministry of Health.
Maigatari, who writes from Dutse, concluded by describing the governor’s achievements as a lasting legacy.
