According to Punch newspaper on March 6, 2026, Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba and several other top-ranking officers are preparing to retire from the Nigeria Police Force following recent changes in its leadership.
Their retirements come after the resignation of former Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of Tunji Disu as his successor. Disu took his oath on Wednesday, becoming the 23rd Nigerian-appointed IGP.
Officials at the Force Headquarters stated that the Deputy Inspectors-General planning to retire have started organizing their departures but are waiting for an official notice before stepping down. Some officers have reportedly begun removing personal items from their offices in anticipation of the transition.
At the same time, seven Assistant Inspectors-General are scheduled to sit for promotion examinations before the Police Service Commission in Abuja on Friday. Their promotion to Deputy Inspector-General is expected to replace the officers who will be retiring.
The officers due for promotion include Margreth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zachariah Fera, Zango Ibrahim, Umar Shehu Nadada, and Muhammed Abdul Sulaiman.
Frank Mba, one of the senior officers set to retire, is a lawyer by training. He studied law at the University of Lagos, was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2002, and later earned a Master’s degree in Law with high honors from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
