Omoyele Sowore has criticized former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, questioning his achievements during his eight years in office. Speaking during an interview, Sowore argued that Obi’s record does not show major developments that would justify his ambition for the presidency.
In a video shared on his X handle, he challenged the popular belief that Obi improved Anambra’s economy, claiming that available data suggests poverty in the state actually increased during that period. According to him, this raises doubts about the idea that Obi’s leadership brought strong economic progress.
Sowore also pointed to education, saying Obi himself admitted he did not build schools while in office. He questioned the quality of education in the state and whether there are standout public institutions that can be credited to Obi’s administration.
On infrastructure, Sowore said there was no evidence of major projects like an airport being built during Obi’s tenure. He also raised concerns about healthcare, asking whether there are notable hospitals established under Obi that handle even basic medical needs effectively.
In addition, he mentioned issues in the education system at the time, including the presence of special examination centers, which were later shut down after Obi left office.
In his words, “Did Peter Obi build an airport that you can fly into during his tenure? No. Do you know of a hospital that specializes in treating even common malaria that he built? No.”
