‎In a sweeping security move ahead of the Christmas celebrations, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has rolled out robust measures, including the deployment of additional troops, special forces, and air assets, to prevent attacks and safeguard lives nationwide.

‎The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), working in synergy with other security agencies, have intensified operations in identified flashpoints and vulnerable areas across the country.

‎Announcing the measures in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the military had placed special forces units and air support elements on high alert to guarantee rapid response to emerging threats.

‎“Robust and proactive measures aimed at preventing any attacks during the Christmas festivities have been emplaced,” Onoja stated.

‎He revealed that aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and monitoring of suspected criminal networks had been scaled up to disrupt criminal plans during the festive season.

‎According to him, unit commanders nationwide have been instructed to strengthen patrols, mount fortified checkpoints, and sustain close collaboration with community leaders, vigilante groups, and state security outfits.

‎Reaffirming the military’s commitment, Onoja said the protection of lives and property remained the Armed Forces’ top priority.

‎“The security and stability of our nation remain our top priority, and every necessary measure is being taken to ensure Nigerians celebrate Christmas in peace, unity, and joy,” he said.

‎He called on Nigerians to remain calm but vigilant, urging them to report suspicious activities promptly to security formations, while assuring confidentiality.

‎Onoja added that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, had extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Nigerians.
