The Defence Headquarters has dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging neglect of military personnel wounded in action, describing the assertions as misleading and unfair.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
Uba said the video, reportedly produced by Lucky Udu Studio, falsely suggested that injured soldiers were abandoned by the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to him, the welfare of wounded personnel remains a top moral priority of the military.
He stated that all injured personnel are entitled to comprehensive medical care under established Armed Forces medical policies.
“Personnel injured during operations receive treatment locally and abroad, depending on the nature and severity of their injuries,” Uba said.
He added that critically wounded soldiers are routinely evacuated to reputable medical facilities overseas when necessary.
Uba explained that within Nigeria, injured personnel are treated in military hospitals and specialised civilian facilities at government expense.
He noted that rehabilitation, prosthetics, counselling and long-term care form part of the welfare framework.
The defence spokesman said soldiers whose injuries prevent further service are placed on medical boards and granted pensions and gratuities.
He also disclosed that families of fallen officers benefit from insurance payouts, educational support and other statutory entitlements.
Uba further highlighted Nigeria’s participation in the Invictus Games as evidence of the military’s commitment to recovery and reintegration.
He urged the public to avoid unverified claims capable of undermining morale within the Armed Forces.
