The Delta State Police Command has recovered two illegal firearms and arrested two suspects in separate intelligence-led operations in Ozoro and Agbor, as part of its sustained crackdown on crime across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the recoveries underscore the command’s determination to rid Delta of illegal weapons and other instruments used to perpetrate crime.
In one of the operations, operatives of the Ozoro Division intercepted 25-year-old Yakubu Musa during a routine patrol along Alaka Road, Ozoro, while he was transporting roofing sheets suspected to have been stolen. Police said the suspect could not give a satisfactory explanation about the items, prompting further investigation.
A search of his residence later led to the recovery of a cut-to-size single-barrel gun. The suspect has been taken into custody while investigations continue.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Agbor Division acted on credible intelligence and intercepted 40-year-old Sunday Anaboro, an indigene of Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area who resides in Agbor.
According to the police, a search of the suspect led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol concealed inside a sack. He is currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, CP Oyeniyi urged residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information capable of helping security agencies prevent crime and arrest criminal elements across Delta State.
