The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, has praised party members for their resilience, stating that the PDP has been restored to its foundational principles and returned to its grassroots base.
Wike made the remarks during the PDP National Convention aired on TVC News on Sunday, March 29, 2026, where party leaders and delegates gathered to deliberate on its future direction.
Highlighting the outcome of internal struggles, he stated, “More importantly, we fought and returned the party to its rightful owners, the people, an accomplishment which speaks to the fundamental principle upon which the party was founded.”
He continued by commending party members for their steadfastness during challenging periods, saying, “It is against this backdrop that I unreservedly congratulate all of you who stood firm when the storm breached.”
Wike added, “You showed exemplary resilience when push came to shove.” Reflecting on internal divisions, he said, “You refused to be downcast when those who pretended to be leaders of the party betrayed you disgracefully.”
He further noted the persistence of party members despite criticism, stating, “You survived the taunts of the naysayers who proclaimed your party dead, as if they were God.”
Wike also acknowledged the determination shown by supporters, saying, “You persecuted the cause of the right in the stubborn fit that morning would inevitably come.”
Describing the current state of the party, he remarked, “And here we are, with that morning certainly before us.” He continued, “You have, in the process, put to shame the cynics who never believed our party would rise again.”
Emphasising unity and renewed purpose, Wike stated, “Together, we are standing on the positive side of history, with renewed energy, vision, and purpose, more united and committed to the task of making Nigeria a truly prosperous country.”
