Defence expert hails Tinubu over appointment of Ex-CDS as Defence Minister

By Sumaila Ogbaje

A defence scholar and publisher, Dr Sani Abubakar, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defence.

Abubakar described the appointment as “a timely and strategic choice for a nation at a security crossroads.”

Abubakar, a senior lecturer at the Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, said that Musa’s 34-year career had equipped him with the depth, discipline and operational experience needed to reposition Nigeria’s defence sector.

He noted that the retired general, 58, had earned national and international respect for his leadership as Chief of Defence Staff between 2023 and 2025, his command of Operation Hadin Kai, and his stewardship of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin.

“Gen. Musa has demonstrated uncommon commitment to Nigeria’s stability, including leading complex counter-insurgency operations and receiving global recognition such as the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.

“Nigeria requires steady, knowledgeable and strategic leadership to confront its evolving security threats,” he said.

Abubakar urged Nigerians, including civil society, the private sector and the armed forces, to give the new minister the support needed to strengthen the defence architecture, deepen regional cooperation and safeguard communities across the country.

He added that Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd would continue to provide accurate coverage of defence reforms and promote informed dialogue on national security. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
