Deeper Christian Life Ministry has denounced a viral false report circulating online, allegedly quoting its founder, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, as saying that America was attempting to steal Nigeria’s natural resources while denying Christian persecution in the country.
The statement, which originated from an unverified platform named “Ibomfocus,” was described by the church as malicious and entirely fabricated.
In a strongly worded release, the ministry clarified that Pastor Kumuyi did not make any such remarks, nor did he address any press conference in Lagos as claimed.
According to the statement, the revered cleric has been outside Nigeria for some time, conducting gospel programmes across the Oceania region and the Far East.
The church reiterated that Pastor Kumuyi remains focused on his evangelical mission and does not engage in political discussions or commentary.
Pastor Kumuyi’s apolitical stance reaffirmed
The statement emphasized Pastor Kumuyi’s consistent commitment to preaching the gospel and maintaining neutrality in political matters.
It stressed that his teachings and activities have always centred on spiritual revival and moral transformation rather than political issues.
Deeper Life Bible Church reaffirmed its position that Kumuyi’s work transcends politics and is solely aimed at spreading the message of salvation.
It further warned that any attempt to link him to politically charged narratives undermines the church’s mission and values.
The Ministry called on members of the public to disregard the fake report and to rely only on verified communications from the church’s official platforms.
Legal warning to purveyors of misinformation
The church has also issued a stern warning to individuals or platforms spreading falsehoods about its General Superintendent.
It cautioned that such defamatory actions could attract legal consequences if repeated in the future.
Deeper Life noted that the incident reflects the growing challenge of misinformation in Nigeria’s digital space, particularly concerning religious leaders.
It urged journalists and content creators to uphold ethical standards and verify reports before publication.
