Death Of Kano District Head, Idris Dankabo Shakes Emirate

The District Head of Kabo and Sarkin Gabas of Kano Emirate, Alhaji Idris Dankabo, has died in a motor accident in Kano metropolis. He was 48.

His death was confirmed by the Kano Emirate Council on its official Facebook page, Sanusi Dynasty.

The late traditional ruler, who passed away on Thursday night, was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo, founder of the defunct Kabo Air and Jarma of Kano.

Idris Dankabo is survived by one wife and two children.

Funeral prayers are scheduled for today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at the Kano Emir’s Palace, with the Emir of Kano expected to lead the rites.

The Dankabo family remains one of the most influential in Kano, with the late patriarch renowned for his contributions to business, politics, and philanthropy. Kabo Air, established in 1980, once operated domestic, regional, and international flights before scaling down operations to focus mainly on charter and Hajj services.

The title of Sarkin Gabas, which Idris Dankabo held until his death, is among the senior positions in the Kano Emirate hierarchy, carrying significant cultural and administrative authority.

His untimely passing is expected to leave a major gap in the traditional leadership structure of the emirate, which remains one of the most influential in Northern Nigeria.
