According to a report by Vanguard on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central under the Peoples Democratic Party, has called on the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, to take urgent and decisive action following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, an area in Jos.
The incident, which occurred on March 27, resulted in the loss of more than 30 lives, with most of the victims identified as Christian worshippers.
The attack has raised renewed concerns about security challenges in parts of the country, particularly in Plateau State, where communities have experienced repeated violence in recent times.
In a statement shared through her official social media channels, the senator expressed deep concern over the killings, describing the situation as a serious failure of the nation’s security system.
She pointed to the repeated nature of such attacks and the continued vulnerability of civilians, especially those gathered for religious activities.
According to her, the incident reflects ongoing gaps in the protection of lives and property, despite earlier assurances from security authorities that efforts were being intensified to address insecurity across the country.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also recalled the commitments made by the defence leadership during the Senate screening process.
She noted that during the appearance of General Musa before lawmakers, there were strong assurances about strategies to improve safety and tackle violent threats.
Those statements, she said, had created expectations among Nigerians that the security situation would improve.
However, the recent events in Jos have, in her view, highlighted a disconnect between those assurances and the realities on the ground.
The senator emphasized the need for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life.
She urged the Minister of Defence to review existing security measures and strengthen response mechanisms, particularly in areas that have become prone to repeated attacks.
She also stressed the importance of intelligence gathering, rapid response, and coordination among security agencies as critical steps toward addressing the problem.
Her message underscored the urgency of restoring public confidence in the country’s security framework.
She said, “Dear General Christopher Musa, Angwan Rukuba is another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected. During your screening at the Senate chambers, your words were filled with promises, and I allowed myself a sigh of relief.”
