Fresh details have emerged following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno and five others on Saturday, February 28, in Chepkiep, Mosop Sub-county.
Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed on Tuesday that all six victims suffered multiple severe injuries, including trauma to the head, chest, and spine. The examinations also revealed varying degrees of burns, indicating that the aircraft burst into flames shortly after impact.
The helicopter, registration 5Y-DSB, was flying at a low altitude when it reportedly struck trees before crashing. A preliminary report by the National Police Service pointed to low flight levels, while Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo cited adverse weather as a possible contributing factor.
Among those who perished were Kenya Forest Service ranger Amos Kipngetich Rotich, photographer Nick Kosgei, teacher Robert Kipkoech Keter, Narok County Protocol Officer Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono, and pilot Captain George Were.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir confirmed that investigations are underway. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Department has secured key components, including the helicopter’s black box. In line with international aviation procedures, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has been notified, and a preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
Authorities have since completed forensic identification of the bodies, clearing the way for burial preparations as the nation mourns a devastating loss.See_More…
