The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State on Thursday held a roadshow and market outreach in Ibadan to sensitise residents about the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
The awareness campaign took officials through major areas of Ibadan, such as the Bodija and Sango markets, the University of Ibadan main gate and Mokola roundabout.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CVR exercise, which commenced on Aug. 18, is being conducted across all the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
The Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Taliatu Adeagbo, says the initiative is to encourage the citizenry to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He particularly advised those who have just turned 18 years old to seize the opportunity.
“We are out to create awareness among the general public, especially new voters, to come out and register.
“Those who have issues with their PVCs should also use this opportunity to correct them,” Adeagbo said.
He added that voters intending to transfer their registration between polling units, registration areas, local governments, or states should also do so during the exercise.
Adeagbo appealed to those who have not collected their PVCs to visit their respective INEC offices in the local government areas.
He described the turnout so far as encouraging, urging voters to complete their registration or make corrections before the close of the exercise.
“The first phase of the registration will end on Dec. 10.
“Anyone without a valid PVC will not be able to vote during the next elections,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
