The 25th Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, has assumed duties with an appeal to the people of the state to support the police by providing useful, timely and credible information, as their cooperation is very necessary and important in helping the Command to keep the state safe.
At his maiden press conference in Asaba on Tuesday, CP Erale urged the people to always say something anytime they see something.
He charged men and officers of the command to align with the mission statement and key agenda of the command.
He expressed commitment to doing everything within the law to ensure that residents and visitors to the state feel safe in their homes, workplaces, communities and places of interest.
“Delta State, being one of the country’s economic hubs, is very vital and critical in the Niger Delta sub-region.
“It is therefore important that the State has a strong and effective security architecture to support the national growth/development and stability.
“While the State offers many opportunities, it also faces security challenges. Our duty is to address these challenges and maintain peace and order across the State.”
He outlined the command’s mission statement to include ensuring discipline, providing intelligence-driven, community-oriented and professionally coordinated policing that protects lives and property, and strengthening public confidence in the force, and making Delta State safer for all.
According to him, the command’s key agenda includes, among others, encouraging community-based intelligence gathering and early reporting of suspicious activities, and making the police more accessible and responsive to the peculiar security needs of each community.
It also includes intensifying and strengthening the ongoing operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, cybercrime, violent crime, oil-related crimes and other emerging threats in Delta State, and establishing a culture in which the public sees the police as partners in security, not merely as an enforcement institution.
The Commissioner acknowledged the efforts of his predecessor, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, and the management team, whose work, he stated, has helped to strengthen the command.
