Chief Jude Asogwa, the Chairman of Nsukka Local Govenment of Enugu State has appealed to Nsukka legislative council to recall the 12 councilors suspended in August 2025.
He said that the 12 out of 20 councilors in Nsukka LG were suspended by their colleagues for attemping to impeach Mr Emmanuel Ugwu the Leader of the Legislative Council.
Asogwa made the appeal in Nsukka on Monday at Adada House during a stakeholders meeting, he said “to err is human but to forgive is divine”.
“I am appealing to Nsukka legislative council to consider lifting the indefinite suspension and recalling the affected councilors.
“We are all human and can make mistake one time or the other.
“But the affected councilors should write apology letter to the legislative council through the leader that they were sorry and have regretted their actions,” he said.
The council chairman however, expressed disappointment and sadness on the action of the affected councilors who conspired to tarnish the image of Nsukka Local Govenment Area by attemping to impeach the leader.
Asogwa said his annoyance was that the 12 councilors did not even care to report the issue to him as Nsukka council chairman or any stakeholder on the face-off they have with the leader before resorting to impeachment attempt.
“I felt bad and disappointed that none of the affected councilors was able to report the face-off to me or any stakeholder so as to resolve this issue but they hurriedlyresorted to impeachment to blackmail the image of the council.
“What they did showed they have no respect for me as well as any stakeholder in the area,”he said.
The LG boss commended stakeholders in the are who have intervened in their various capacities to ensure that the misunderstanding in Nsukka Legislative Council was resolved amicably.
In a remark, Chief Chris Ezema, the acting Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nsukka LG commended Asogwa for his intervention and appealed to the legislative arm to lift the suspension of affected councilors.
“I commend the council chairman for this intervention, it will help Nsukka legislative council to move forward.
“It was unfortunate that the 12 affected councilors allowed themselves to be used to create disharmony on an issued that could been been resolved amicably if council chairman or stakeholders were consulted.
Responding the Leader (Ugwu) of Nsukka Legislative Council thanked Nsukka LG Chairman and stakeholders in the area for the meeting to find amicable solution to standoff in Nsukka legislative council since August last year.
Ugwu promised that he would convene a sitting where the appeal of lifting the suspension and recalling the 12 suspended councilors would be considered.
Speaking on behalf of the 12 suspended councilors who all were present, Mr Chidi Okoro the councilor represents Edem-Ani Ward expressed appreciation to the council chairman and stakeholders in Nsukka LG for their interventions and promised that such a thing would not happen again as they have learnt their lession.
“We are sorry for what happened in the legislative council last year August that led to our indefinite suspension, such a thing will not happen again,” he said.
