Following the conviction of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the former National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Demian Okeke-Ogene, has described the Judgement on a seven-count terrorism charge brought against him by the Federal Government as unacceptable.
Ogene appealed to President Bola Tinubu to, as matter of urgency, intervene to prevent unnecessary tension in the South East region of Nigeria.
Nigerian Tribune had earlier reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, convicted Nnamdi Kanu on a seven-count terrorism charge brought against him by the Federal Government.
Justice James Omotosho, while delivering judgment in the case, found him guilty on all counts, which include engaging in acts of terrorism, belonging to and leading a proscribed group, threatening and killing security operatives, burning properties, concealment, and importing an unregistered radio transmitter.
Reacting further on the development in a telephone interview with Nigerian Tribune, Ogene, lamented that the Judgment is a proof that Ndigbo are still living under the cage of marginalisation in Nigeria.
“The Judgement is generally unacceptable by the people of South East region (Ndigbo).
“The President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should as a matter of urgency intervened to prevent unnecessary tension in the South East region.
“The Judgment is an injustice to Ndigbo Worldwide.
“We want Nnamdi Kanu to be release unconditionally for the sake of peace, unity, togetherness, equity equality fairness and justice.
“I, therefore, urged every law-abiding Nigerian to as well condemned the judgement, Ogene advocated.”
Also reacting, the South East Youths Assembly (SEYA), said the judgement is a weapon against Ndigbo.
The group reaction was contained in a statement signed and made available to Nigerian Tribune in Awka on Thursday by it spokesperson, Mazi Chika Art Adiele,
According to Adiele, “This judgment is a weapon against Ndigbo. The Nigeria state, has once again demonstrated her willingness to completely bury Ndigbo in the dustbin of history. This is not all about MNK, but a missile targeted at the heart of my people.
