We have lived with the horrowing reality for a very long time. Our homes are no longer safe, and we have become accustomed to living in fear. But it does not have to be this way; we deserve to live in peace and security. I stand with a heavy heart and unwavering resolve as we confront the harrowing reality of kidnapping that plagues our communities. The recent mass abduction of over 170 worshippers from three churches in Kurmin Wali is not just an attack on individuals but a deep wound to our shared humanity and the very fabric of our society.
Disrupting places of worship, desecrating our homeland, instilling fear in our communities, and tearing apart families has slowly become the norm. This brutal act of violence, aimed at sowing discord and distress, must be met with our collective condemnation and a unified call for action.
I wish to extend my heartfelt prayers to the families of those still in captivity. I assure you that your pain is not unheard; your struggle is our struggle. We stand in solidarity with you and pledge to never lose sight of the urgent need for justice and security in our communities.
The initial denial of these horrific events by authorities only compounded our anguish; it is irresponsible, uncalled for, and inexcusable. We must continue to demand accountability and truth from our leaders at all times, especially now. We cannot continue to condone erosion of trust when lives are at stake. It is the responsibility of every public servant to prioritize the safety and well-being of every citizen, regardless of their faith or background.
We cannot allow fear to continue to dictate our lives. Our people and communities deserve protection, reassurance, and commitment from those in power and positions of leadership. I call upon the Kaduna State Government and our security forces to intensify rescue operations and prioritize the safe return of all those in captivity. I also call on them to ensure the decimation of kidnapping and banditry in our communities and country.
Dear Nigerians, time is long overdue for us come together in solidarity—not just to condemn these heinous acts, but to recommit ourselves to a future free from violence and fear. Let us advocate for actionable policies that uphold human dignity and ensure the safety of all our citizens.
I urge everyone—public and political leaders, security leaders, community leaders, families, and fellow citizens—to join in this fight against the menace of kidnapping and banditry. It is only together that we can fortify our communities and build a safer environment for future generations.
