A causal worker with Kay Jay Zenith Ltd, Kenneth Samuel, has landed in trouble for picking packets of spaghetti belonging to the company and was caught by the security men.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the management calculated that between 1st of March to 31st August, 2025, the company had lost 23 packets of spaghetti worth N423,000 within the period in view and held Samuel liable for the missing packets of spaghetti.
Thus, the management handed him over to the Police at Ejigbo Division for prosecution . He was subsequently charged before Court for stealing under the Criminal Law of the State.
The incident happened at the company’s premises located at Jumoke Street, Ejigbo, Lagos, where the suspect was employed as a causal worker.
According to the Police, the suspect denied stealing the items as claimed by the company and yet sort for the peaceful settlement of the matter out of the Police and possibly pay for the missing items.
However, the management was said to have insisted on prosecution of the suspect in order to serve as deterrent to others workers who might want to try such in future.
Thus, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Kenneth Samuel ‘m’ being a casual worker with Kay Jay Zenith Ltd between 1st of March to 31st August, 2025 at Kay Jay Zenith Ltd situated at Jumoke Street, Ejigbo, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal twenty three packets of spaghetti value Four Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand Two Hundred Naira (N423,200.00), property of Kay Jay Zenith Ltd and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
