Company registry: Stakeholders challenge CAC’s transparency claims, demand independent review of operations

A group of concerned stakeholders within the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, has expressed reservations over recent media reports in which the Commission’s leadership reiterated its commitment to transparency and improved service delivery to Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the stakeholders noted that while such declarations align with the core mandate of the Commission, they must be substantiated with measurable administrative reforms and verifiable actions that reflect fairness, accountability, and integrity.

The group observed that recent developments within the Commission suggest persistent challenges relating to staff welfare, fairness in administrative decisions, and the integrity of internal processes. They also raised concerns about the slow progress of the Commission’s digital transformation agenda, which, according to them, continues to undermine efficient service delivery to the public.

“Recent experiences within the Commission indicate lingering issues relating to staff welfare, fairness in administrative decisions, and the integrity of operational processes. Similarly, concerns persist over the slow pace of ICT advancement, which continues to affect the efficiency of service delivery to the public,” the statement read in part.

The stakeholders argued that true transparency must be demonstrated through verifiable actions rather than mere public pronouncements. They, therefore, called for an independent and open review of the Commission’s financial management systems, promotion processes, and ICT operations.

According to them, such a review would help rebuild trust among employees and stakeholders while reinforcing the Commission’s credibility as a key regulatory body in Nigeria’s corporate governance landscape.

“We believe that genuine transparency requires verifiable actions rather than public statements. Therefore, we call for an open and independent review of the Commission’s financial management, promotion processes, and ICT operations to rebuild confidence among staff and stakeholders,” the statement added.

The stakeholders emphasized that implementing these reforms sincerely would not only improve productivity and morale within the CAC but also restore public confidence in its ability to deliver transparent and efficient services to Nigerians.
