
Former Labour Minister and ex-Anambra Governor, Chris Ngige, narrowly escaped an attack after gunmen reportedly ambushed his convoy along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North LGA, fortunately, he was not in the convoy at the time.
According to his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, the assailants shot a police officer attached to the convoy and seized his gun and uniform.
A white Mercedes-Benz SUV reportedly taken by the attackers was later recovered by police after a high-speed chase and gunfire exchange.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police PRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said a state-wide manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
He added that one police officer sustained minor gunshot injuries but is stable and receiving treatment. Authorities have secured the recovered vehicle for further investigations.
Reports obtained from Vanguard, claim that a woman filming the scene was shot dead, while a nearby shop owner who stepped out during the attack sustained injuries and is undergoing surgery. Casualty details remain unconfirmed as investigations continue.
Authorities’ officials have reassured the public that they are actively pursuing the attackers and will provide updates as more information emerges.
