The Defence Headquarters says the maiden Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Under-15 Boys Football Championship is set to begin in Port Harcourt on Friday.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, on Friday in Abuja.
Uba said the week-long tournament, scheduled for Dec. 13 to Dec. 20, would feature Under-15 teams drawn from military barracks and surrounding communities across the South-South region, including Imo and Abia States.
He said that the championship aligned with the vision of the CDS, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, to promote youth development, capacity building and social cohesion.
Uba said the event would expose young people to productive sporting activities and sensitise them on the need to avoid social vices and contribute positively to nation building.
He said the championship would also provide a platform to identify young football talents while instilling the values of teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship among participants.
“The youths will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities, develop life skills and build confidence for a brighter future,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
