According to a report by Punch on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Residents of Nwang Village in Ekajuk community, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, have described the shocking moment a young woman was killed during a violent attack by her boyfriend.

According to an eyewitness, people in the area were alerted by a loud noise and confusion early in the morning. Neighbours quickly rushed to the farm where the incident was happening, hoping to stop the situation. However, they could not intervene in time because the suspect was already attacking the woman with a machete.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Moshie Igu, was said to have been involved in a serious argument with her boyfriend, Malime Ejor, before the situation turned violent. The disagreement was reportedly linked to accusations of infidelity.

Despite efforts by residents to step in, fear and the dangerous weapon prevented them from getting close enough to stop the attack. After the incident, youths in the community were able to overpower the suspect and held him until security operatives arrived.

The police later confirmed that the suspect is now in custody and that an investigation has begun to understand exactly what happened. Authorities also revealed that the suspect was protected from being harmed by angry residents at the scene.

According to the resident, “We were unable to prevent the situation because he was already using a machete on her. We could not do anything. We were able to hold him. Our youths caught him and later handed him over to security operatives.”
