BUA Group Chairman, Honours $500,000 Pledge Despite Super Eagles Loss

BUA Group Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has announced that he will fulfil his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles despite the team’s failure to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu had made the pledge before the tournament as part of efforts to motivate the national team in their bid for continental success.

The Super Eagles were eliminated on Wednesday after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco in the semi-finals, following a goalless draw at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

In a message shared on his official Instagram page on Thursday, Rabiu commended the Nigerian players for their resilience, commitment and fighting spirit throughout the competition.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote.

Rabiu said the team’s passion, unity and effort deserved recognition, even though the desired outcome was not achieved.

He added that the promised cash reward would be honoured as a gesture of appreciation for the players’ hard work and the excitement they brought to Nigerians during the tournament.
