At least two people were killed and a local vigilante injured after over 70 heavily armed terrorists stormed Oke Daaba in Oro-Ago community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday evening. The attackers reportedly launched a coordinated assault targeting residents before local vigilantes confronted them.
A security source said the vigilantes engaged the terrorists in a gun duel, preventing what could have been a larger-scale attack. The injured vigilante was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, while two residents lost their lives during the confrontation.
Residents described the attack as terrifying, noting the sound of gunfire echoed through the community as families scrambled for safety. A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed the injured vigilante receiving treatment in a hospital bed.
Locals expressed concern over the rising frequency of attacks in Kwara South, warning that continued assaults could lead to mass displacement if urgent action is not taken by security agencies and the state government. They fear the terrorists could extend operations into major towns and cities.
Community members are now calling on the Kwara State Government and federal authorities to deploy additional security personnel to prevent further loss of lives and property. They stressed that the government’s silence risks emboldening criminal groups and worsening insecurity across the region.
