BREAKING: Victor #Osimhen Wins 2023 African Footballer Of The Year Award? – #CAFAwards2023

BREAKING: Victor #Osimhen Wins 2023 African Footballer Of The Year Award? – #CAFAwards2023—-Ahead of 2023 AFFCON Award, Nigerian football legend, Emmanuel Amuneke has tipped Victor Osimhen to win the African Footballer of Year award this Monday in Marrakesh, Morocco.

The Nigerian serial scorer in Serie A as well as in the Super Eagles is the top pick by most football followers.

Nigeria’s star man stands on the threshold of fulfilling his dream.

The 2023 CAF Awards will be held in Marrakech on the evening of December 11, with accolades in a total of 14 catagories needing to be handed out.

Emmanuel Amuneke, winner of the 1994 edition told Sports Village Square at Mövenpick Hotel in Marrakech that he believes that his compatriot and former player Victor Osimhen eminently deserves to be crowned this year as Africa’s most prolific footballer.

He admitted that the choice this year may be very complicated wing to the calibre of the three players on the final list. “The three shortlisted players have been able to distinguish themselves.

Achraf Hakimi was one of the players that did Morocco and Africa proud by getting to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Mohamed Salah has been doing very well with his country and Liverpool while Osimhen was very instrumental  to the success of Napoli by winning the league after many years since the era of Maradona.

“Being the highest goal scorer is the icing on the cake. When you look at the individual performance, you can narrow the scope.

For Hakimi, it was a collective effort, but for Osimhen, though you could say it was collective with Napoli, emerging as the highest scorer certainly gave him the edge as an individual.

“As a Nigerian and as his former coach when he was in the youth team, I will be glad if Osimhen wins.”

Recall, back in April, with the title looming, Osimhen gave an interview to the Daily Mail following links with a move to the Premier League that summer.

He spoke of his journey from Nigeria through to Naples and revealed his underlying ambition. The Daily Mail quoted Osimhen as saying:

“I am not going to lie, it would be my dream to win African footballer of the year. As an African, you dream of this prize and maybe I can win.”
