The United States government has issued a fresh advisory to its citizens in Iran, urging them to stockpile essential supplies and prepare for possible emergency conditions as tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate.
In a detailed alert on Thursday, U.S. authorities said, “We are monitoring the situation in the Middle East closely and will keep you updated so you can make decision about your safety.”
The statement underscores growing concerns over the deteriorating security environment in the region.
The advisory strongly encouraged American nationals to be ready to shelter in place if necessary, warning that departure options may be limited or unavailable.
“If you choose not to take advantage of available departure options, including commercial options, you should be prepared to shelter in place in a secure location within your residence or another safe building,” the statement read.
Citizens were specifically instructed to maintain adequate emergency supplies.
“Have a supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items,” the U.S. government said, highlighting the importance of preparedness amid uncertainty.
The alert also broadened its scope beyond Iran, warning U.S. citizens against travel to several high-risk areas.
According to the statement, “U.S. citizens should not travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, or the Pakistan-Iran border area.”
The advisory further noted that while some land routes remain accessible, conditions vary significantly across the region.
“Land routes to Armenia, Turkey, and Turkmenistan are open — see details for each in the full alert. Azerbaijan’s land borders are closed to routine traffic,” the statement added, providing critical information for those considering evacuation.
Despite the availability of some exit routes, U.S. officials cautioned that leaving Iran may not be straightforward. “U.S. citizens with an urgent need to depart Iran should first consider other available options for departure,” the advisory stated.
It also warned of potential restrictions imposed by Iranian authorities. “Be aware the Iranian government may prevent U.S. citizens from departing or charge an ‘exit fee’ for departures from Iran,” the statement said, pointing to possible bureaucratic and financial obstacles.
Special attention was drawn to dual nationals, who may face additional complications. “U.S.-Iranian dual nationals must exit Iran on Iranian passports,” the advisory clarified.
Security risks within the country were also highlighted, with warnings about surveillance and enforcement activities. “Iranian police and security personnel may operate roadside checkpoints using unmarked vehicles such as taxis,” the statement noted.
The advisory painted a stark picture of the risks facing Americans in Iran, warning that individuals could be subject to scrutiny or detention. “U.S. nationals are at significant risk of questioning, arrest, and detention in Iran,” the statement said.
It added that even minimal connections to the United States could draw attention from authorities. “Showing a U.S. passport or demonstrating connections to the United States can be reason enough for Iranian authorities to detain someone,” the alert warned.
For those requiring assistance, the U.S. government directed citizens to seek help through its diplomatic mission in Europe. “U.S. citizens in Iran in need of help should contact the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland,” the statement concluded.
The advisory reflects mounting anxiety over regional instability and signals Washington’s growing concern for the safety of its nationals in Iran as geopolitical tensions continue to unfold.
The war in Iran has continued unabated.
This development comes even as countries around the world continue to demand need for diplomacy and end to hostilities.
