According to a report by The Telegraph on Monday, March 30, 2026, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that ongoing talks between the United States and Iran are progressing positively, despite public statements from Tehran suggesting otherwise.
Speaking to reporters, Leavitt pointed to a clear gap between Iran’s public rhetoric and its private communications. “What is said publicly is, of course, much different than what’s being communicated to us privately,” she said, indicating that diplomatic channels remain active behind the scenes.
She also revealed that President Donald Trump recently approved a 10-day pause on planned military strikes targeting Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure. According to Leavitt, the pause is intended to create space for meaningful negotiations. “This remains a truly once-in-a-generation opportunity for the regime to make a good deal with the United States, permanently abandon their nuclear ambitions, and stop acting as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism,” she stated.
Leavitt suggested that elements within Iran’s leadership are showing increased willingness to engage diplomatically. “Despite all of the public posturing you hear from the regime and false reporting, the remnants of Iranian leadership are eager to come to the negotiating table,” she added.
She emphasized that while diplomacy is being prioritized, the United States remains prepared to escalate pressure if necessary. “One way or another, Iran will no longer have the credible ability to threaten the United States or our allies,” Leavitt warned.
Her remarks reflect a dual-track approach by the U.S. administration—maintaining military readiness while pursuing negotiations—in an effort to reach a long-term agreement that addresses nuclear concerns and regional security issues.
