President Bola Tinubu has announced sweeping changes within the top ranks of the Nigerian Armed Forces, signalling a new phase in the nation’s defence leadership.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by Mr Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
New Defence Chiefs Appointed
According to the statement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.
Major-General W. Shaibu is now the Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes charge as the Chief of Air Staff. In the Navy, Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes duty as the new Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will, however, retain his current position.
President Commends Outgoing Officers
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” during their tenure.
He urged the newly appointed officers to justify the trust placed in them by serving with honour, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national unity and security.
The President emphasised that the nation’s armed forces must remain alert, disciplined, and united as they confront emerging security challenges across the country.
Appointments Take Immediate Effect
The statement confirmed that all the new appointments take immediate effect.
Analysts view this development as part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the security architecture and enhance coordination among the nation’s military services.
