BREAKING: Pilots Survive After NAF Alpha Jet Crashes in Kainji

The pilots of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet survived a crash during a test flight at NAF Base in Kainji, Niger State, on Saturday.

In response to the incident, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has ordered the immediate establishment of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A statement from NAF Spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, praised the exceptional bravery and professionalism of the Alpha Jet pilots, who managed to eject safely following an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection functional check flight at the Nigerian Air Force Base Kainji.

The statement highlighted that shortly after take-off, the aircraft encountered an emergency, prompting the pilots to respond swiftly and with remarkable composure.

“They expertly manoeuvred the aircraft away from populated areas before executing a safe ejection,” he remarked.

The crew are currently undergoing routine medical evaluations. Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke has commended the pilots for their courage, discipline, and sound judgement, which averted a potential loss of life.

He has also ordered the immediate formation of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the incident. The Nigerian Air Force has reassured the public of its steadfast commitment to maintaining stringent safety standards and operational excellence.

“The NAF remains dedicated to safeguarding its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in accordance with its constitutional mandate,” the spokesman concluded.
