Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during a press conference held in Enugu, describing his decision as one that came after “long reflection.”
Mbah explained that his move was guided by a sense of duty, leadership responsibility, and the need to pursue broader developmental goals for the state.
Mbah expresses gratitude to PDP
In his address, Governor Mbah expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it provided during his political journey. “To the Peoples Democratic Party, which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude.
“The PDP supported us through a demanding campaign and joined us in celebrating the victory,” he said.

The governor noted that leadership often requires taking “difficult, even painful decisions” for the greater good, adding that there comes a time when one must make a bold move to shape their destiny.
“Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah declared.
Cabinet members also join APC
Mbah’s defection comes barely 24 hours after several members of his cabinet also announced their move to the APC, a development that has stirred political discussions across Enugu State.
Political observers suggest that the mass defection signals a major realignment in Enugu’s political landscape, potentially strengthening the APC’s foothold in the South-East region.
Governor Mbah, who was elected under the PDP platform in 2023, is expected to officially register as a member of the APC in the coming days, alongside his key aides and supporters.
