According to a report by Daily Post, on Tuesday March 31, 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has sent a strong warning to political actors in Rivers State, declaring that the era of a single individual specifically a governor handpicking successors and candidates is over.
Speaking during a high-stakes consultative meeting with a joint coalition of APC and PDP stakeholders from Rivers State at his Abuja residence on Monday night, Wike addressed the friction within the state’s political landscape.
Wike, who has been locked in a protracted political battle with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, emphasized that the state’s political future must be decided through collective consensus rather than executive fiat.
The Minister suggested that previous errors in judgment regarding the selection of candidates have provided a hard-learned lesson for the state’s political elite.
“No governor can impose a candidate on Rivers State. The mistakes of the past will not be repeated,” Wike declared.
