The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has again adjusted the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, increasing it from ₦865 to ₦992 per litre.
The new rate took effect on Sunday, sparking confusion and concern among motorists across several parts of the country.
Mixed Reactions as New Price Takes Effect
As of the time of filing this report, the company had yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason behind the latest increment.
However, attendants at various NNPC retail outlets confirmed receiving directives to update their meters to the new price.
At the NNPC Mega Station along Ogunusi Road in Ojodu Berger, Lagos, fuel attendants were seen recalibrating their pumps to reflect the ₦992 per litre rate.
Many motorists who arrived unaware of the new price expressed shock and frustration over the sudden change.
Scarcity Persists in Some Locations
Further checks at NNPC outlets in Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, revealed that some stations were still displaying the old price of ₦875 per litre.
Despite this, none of them were dispensing fuel to customers at the time. Similar situations were observed in other parts of Lagos and Ogun States, where several NNPC stations remained closed.
The latest price adjustment has raised fears of another round of hardship for Nigerians, as transport fares and the cost of goods are expected to rise further in the coming days.
Many Nigerians have urged the government and NNPCL to provide clear reasons for the recurring price hikes and to address the persistent fuel supply challenges.
