BREAKING NEWS: Okonkwo Accuses APC of Using Resigned ADC Chairman to Undermine Party Leadership

Kenneth Okonkwo, an ADC chieftain and lawyer, has accused Nafiu Bala Gombe, the former ADC state chairman, of being recruited by the APC to challenge the ADC’s leadership. Okonkwo explained that Gombe voluntarily resigned from the ADC on May 17, 2025, citing the need for a smooth coalition and restructuring. His resignation took effect on May 26, 2025, and was clearly communicated in a letter written by Gombe himself. Okonkwo claimed that after Gombe’s resignation, the APC allegedly approached him to use his position against the ADC. According to Okonkwo, Gombe was recruited by the APC to disrupt the party’s leadership, and a court challenge was initiated in an attempt to discredit the new leadership of the ADC.

In his interview with Channels TV, Okonkwo countered false claims about a court ruling favoring Gombe’s faction, stating that the trial court had rejected the ex parte motion filed by Gombe. He also referenced the Court of Appeal’s clarification, which confirmed that the lower court’s decision was just a procedural notice and not an actual ruling. Okonkwo questioned the grounds for appealing a decision that hadn’t yet been finalized. This controversy highlights the ongoing political tensions within the ADC, with the APC seemingly involved in attempts to destabilize the party’s leadership.
