BREAKING NEWS: Benue Rep Ojema Ojotu Dumps PDP Joins Ruling APC

The lawmaker representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ojema Ojotu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ojotu, who currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Inland Waterways, announced his defection in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.

In the letter, Ojotu attributed his decision to the lingering internal crisis within the PDP, which he said has made it difficult for the party to function effectively.

“After wide consultations with my constituents, family members, and political associates, I have decided to dump the PDP for the APC,” the lawmaker stated.

Ojotu’s defection adds to the growing list of opposition lawmakers crossing over to the ruling party in recent months, as political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape.

His move is expected to further strengthen the APC’s presence in Benue State, particularly in the Idoma-speaking areas of Apa and Agatu, where the PDP has traditionally held sway.
